COVID-19 Support For Learners: How To Claim Funding For Students in 2020-21

COVID-19 has made learning from home the new normal. In an effort to support Canadian families with students, the Ontario Government has created the Support for Learners benefit.

This one-time benefit of up to $250 is only available until February 8th, 2021 so if you haven't applied already, now is the time!

This benefit is designed to offset additional costs that you may have incurred in the 2020-2021 school year. If you are eligible you will receive a one-time payment of:

  • $200 for each child or youth up to Grade 12

  • $250 for each child or youth up to age 21 with special needs

In order to be deemed eligible, you must live in Ontario and be one of the following:

  • parent or guardian to a child or youth up to Grade 12

  • secondary school student over the age of 18

  • parent or guardian to a child or youth that is 21 or younger and has special needs

Children, youth or students are eligible if they:

  • attend a publicly funded school

  • attend a private school

  • attend a First Nation operated or federally operated school

  • attend school in-person or online

  • are homeschooled

  • are enrolled in child care
